Frequently asked questions
General
- 01Trimming your wick to 1/4 inch before each burn is key to a cleaner and safer candle experience. Whether you use cotton or wooden wicks, trimming helps prevent issues. Cotton wicks tend to "mushroom" due to carbon buildup, which can cause excess wax consumption. Wooden wicks don't mushroom; however, they may not relight if left untrimmed. I use CD (Stabilo) wicks, which are known to mushroom, trimming is important. Always extinguish a flame that is too high or flickering, as it could be dangerous.
- 02We make both cotton and wooden wick candles. The cotton wicks that we use are an excellent choice for soy candles. They are made from all-natural ring-spun cotton and are metal-free. Our crackling wooden wicks burn cleaner and slower. Both must be trimmed, prior to relighting and both wicks can be easily broken off once the candle is cooled before relighting for an optimum burn.

- 05100% soy wax is known for sweating and it's completely normal. A temperature change can make this happen and it does not affect the candle burn. Candles should be placed in cool and dry places. You can take a dry paper towel and dab the sweat off of the top of your candle prior to lighting if this is encountered.

- 08High temperatures can cause candles to melt and lose their shape. When the temperature is hot outside, it is not recommended to leave your candles in a location or vehicle (unless you have an insulated bag and parked in a shaded area) as soy candles are sensitive to excessive heat and direct sunlight. Typical melting point starts at 113 degrees Fahrenheit/ 45 degrees Celsius. To preserve the integrity of your soy candle, store at room temperature.
- 09To maximize the burn time of your candles and to ensure an even more efficient burn, follow these steps: Trim your wick 1/4 inch in between burnings. Note that The Beautiful Brown Rainbow candles are pre-trimmed for your first burn. 2. Ensure that your first burn has a complete melt pool. This means that your top layer completely melts from edge to edge before extinguishing the candle. You may use a candle snuffer. 3. Last but not least, it is recommended that the candle is lit in four-hour increments. After the first burn and the candle is trimmed, cooled, and relit, burn for four hours then extinguish to ensure you get your burn time. If the recommended four hours is exceeded, you are interfering with the candle burn time.
- 10No, placing handcrafted resin items in the dishwasher is not recommended. The high heat and harsh detergents used in dishwashers can cause the resin to warp, discolor, or become brittle, ultimately ruining your handcrafted pieces. For best results, we advise gently hand-washing resin items with mild soap and lukewarm water to maintain their beauty and durability.
- 11Yes, The Beautiful Brown proudly offers custom orders. As a DIY Arts and Crafts company focused on fostering creativity, we understand that you may have unique ideas. Customers must complete the form that will be sent to the customer once an inquiry is received. A determination will be made after review of the document if the order is doable. Please note that all custom orders are paid in advance.
- 12Yes, at The Beautiful Brown, we prioritize both the safety of our participants and our commitment to environmentally friendly practices. We exclusively use VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds-free) resin. This ensures that our crafting sessions are not only enjoyable but also safe for your health and the environment. VOC-free resin contains no harmful chemicals that can emit toxic fumes, making it an excellent choice for indoor crafting activities and for those with chemical sensitivities. By choosing such materials, we strive to create a safer, healthier, and more sustainable crafting experience for everyone involved.
- 13Handwash Only: Use mild soap and a soft cloth or sponge for cleaning. Not Dishwasher Safe: Avoid placing in the dishwasher, as heat and detergents can damage the resin. Avoid Extreme Heat: Keep away from hot surfaces or temperatures to prevent warping or damage. Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Prolonged exposure to moisture or humidity may affect the finish. Avoid Prolonged Sunlight Exposure: Direct sunlight may cause discoloration or yellowing over time. Do Not Soak: Prolonged soaking in water can weaken the resin or cause surface clouding. Handle with Care: Avoid dropping or applying excessive pressure to prevent chips or cracks. Keep Away from Harsh Chemicals: Alcohol, acetone, or other strong chemicals can damage the resin's surface.
- 14How to properly care for your resin coasters. - Not Dishwasher Safe - Handwash With Mild Soap - Avoid Contact with Extreme Heat - Condensation may cause a glass container to stick to the coaster. It is recommended that you place a napkin on the coaster if you are using glass. A small coat of carnauba wax was added to assist with waterproofing.
